His band Mattson 2 has toured w/ Khruangbin, Kikagaku Moyo, Toro Y Moi, & performed Telluride Jazz Fest, Blue Note Tokyo, The Fillmore, Desert Daze & more. Recorded work under Mattson 2 includes 12 albums, and multiple collaborations with Toro Y Moi, Ray Barbee, and Tommy Guerrero, garnering over 80MIL streams and charting twice at #1 on contemporary jazz BILLBOARD charts. In digital events, Jonathan closed partnerships with Andrew Bird, Bombino, Vieux Farka Touré, La Luz, Fat Tony, & others.
He lives in San Diego with his wife, two daughters, and their dog Peanut. He graduated w/ Honors Cum Laud from UCSD’s Jazz & The Music of The African Diaspora program and UCI’s Integrated Composition, Improvisation, & Technology Master of Fine Arts program.
